About the Laphroaig Elements L2.0
Laphroaig Elements L2.0 is an exceptional, highly innovative limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky that marks the second chapter in Laphroaig's experimental Elements series. Crafted at the historic Islay distillery, this non-chill filtered expression pushes the boundaries of traditional production by focusing on a slower, heavily extended fermentation process. The mash was subjected to a continuous 115-hour fermentation—nearly double the distillery's standard timeframe—using a combination of cloudy and clear worts to maximize fruity ester production and structural complexity before double-distillation in copper pot stills. Matured in heavily charred first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at a robust, unadulterated cask strength of 59.6% ABV, this vibrant pale-gold single malt masterfully integrates Laphroaig's iconic medicinal peat smoke with unexpected waves of bright tropical fruit and deep, malty sweetness.
Food Pairing: Pairs spectacularly alongside smoky barbecued pork belly, grilled oysters with garlic herb butter, extra-mature smoked cheddar or Roquefort blue cheese, and artisanal sea-salt dark chocolate.
TASTING NOTES - A brilliant, pale straw-gold appearance displaying a remarkably clean, yet rich and oily texture that coats the palate heavily with slow, defined legs on the glass.
NOSE - High-toned, fresh, and deeply aromatic, opening with prominent notes of green apples, ripe pears, and subtle orange zest, beautifully intertwined with signature Laphroaig coastal brine, medicinal peat smoke, damp sea moss, and a gentle honey sweetness.
PALATE - Bold, full-bodied, and intensely flavor-forward on the arrival; the high proof delivers an immediate tongue-tingling sparkle of white pepper, yielding to a complex mid-palate rich with charred campfire ash, sweet vanilla bean, creamy malted barley, and a bright burst of tropical pineapple and lime juice.
FINISH - Exceptionally long, warm, and drying, leaving a deeply resonant trail of heavy antiseptic peat smoke and salty sea spray perfectly balanced by a lingering, sweet fruity fade and light oak spice.
SERVE - Best enjoyed poured neat at room temperature in a traditional Glencairn glass to experience the uncut power of the fermentation experiment, or slowly opened up with a few drops of pure spring water to temper the cask strength and release hidden floral and citrus oils.
