Laphroaig 'Càirdeas' French Oak 2026 is the 18th annual limited release in the celebrated Friends of Laphroaig series, launched for the Fèis Ìle (Islay Festival) in 2026. Marking a bold first for the distillery, this expression is matured entirely in 100% French oak casks. The European oak imparts structure, tannic grip, and a savory, dark fruit complexity that beautifully balances Laphroaig's signature coastal salinity, medicinal edge, and intense peat smoke, resulting in a rich, distinctly layered Islay malt.

Food Pairing: Smoked brisket, roasted duck with cherry reduction, strong blue cheeses like Roquefort, dark chocolate truffles, or freshly shucked oysters.

Tasting Notes : Natural mahogany to deep amber in color with a full-bodied, slightly oily, and chewy mouthfeel.

Nose : Aromatic and smoky, featuring freshly cut wood shavings, earthy peat fires, polished leather, honeydew melon, and sweet stone fruits with a distinct briny sea note.

Palate : Intense and layered with rich campfire smoke, sweet vanilla, black liquorice, brittle dark chocolate, grated star anise, roasted coffee, and a bright fruit lift of tart cherries, plum, and pomegranate.

Finish : Long, savory, and warming with distinct notes of smoked ham, sea salt, and lingering coastal peat smoke.

Serve : Serve neat in a Glencairn glass to experience its full intensity, or add a few drops of water to open up the softer fruit and spice notes. Can also be enjoyed over ice.
