About the Kopke 40 Year Tawny Port
A masterpiece from the world’s oldest Port house, this 40-year-old tawny reveals a deep amber color with a distinctive greenish rim. The complex nose opens with rich aromas of raisins, dried figs, and walnuts wrapped in delicate hints of vanilla and honey, leading to a dense, silky, and immensely concentrated palate balanced by striking, vibrant freshness and a powerful finish.
Food Pairing: Outstanding alongside premium foie gras with toasted walnuts, rich toffee brownies, dark chocolate pistachio pavé, or crostini with artisanal goat cheese.
Wine Spectator
This offers a dreamy mix of caramelized pear, fig and peach flavors at the core, while caramel, sesame oil and date notes fill in through the expansive finish. At first glance this is quite lush, but the finish lingers with cut and drive.
Wine Enthusiast
A wonderful blending of sweet, caramel flavors and old wood seeps into what is still a surprisingly fresh wine. It has lovely, old, gold acidity just lightly burnished with some spirit. Concentrated, yes, but still finely poised, and much less medicinal than previous examples of Kopke's 40-year old.
