About the K Vintners M.C.K. (Motor City Kitty) Syrah 2019 750ml
Located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla, Washington, K Vintners opened its doors to the public on December 3rd, 2001. The property at 820 Mill Creek Road, where the winery sits, was homesteaded in 1853, with the adjacent farmhouse built in 1872. The winery grounds with Titus Creek flowing through the lawn and the old pioneer-planted trees are a little slice of heartland Americana. The Winemaker, well, he loves to drink wine! Charles Smith, proprietor and winemaker, comes to Walla Walla after 11 years in Scandanavia. Originally from northern California, he has been involved with wine personally and professionally. And did we forget to mention that he loves to drink wine? The Vineyards: K Vintners is producing wines from 2 distinctive viticultural zones: Wahluke Slope and Walla Walla Valley. Each area is unique and extraordinary for Syrah and the Field Blends produced.
98 Points - James Suckling
Layered aromas of plums, black cherries, leather, bark and iron. Full-bodied with a lot of nuances. Firm, gripping tannins. Dried roses and crushed blackberries mix with dark, mineral complexity, leaving a buzz on the palate. A clear note of cocoa powder comes through. It is concentrated and dynamic. Superb.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
I always seem to love this cuvée, and the 2019 Syrah Motor City Kitty is no exception. Coming from a single block in the Boushey Vineyard, it was not destemmed, spent a full 47 days on skins, and raised 21 months in 25% new French oak. It has a great nose of darker, gamey black fruits and iron, ground pepper, black olives, and violets. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this balanced, rich, gamey, Northern Rhône-like beauty is terrific today and will be terrific in years to come.
