About the Jim Barry The Mcrae Wood Shiraz 2020 750ml
The Jim Barry McRae Wood Shiraz has received much critical acclaim over the years with each promising vintage. This wine shows notes of blood plum, cherry and dark berried fruits. Black olive, spice and cherry oak also play a supporting role. The palate is restrained in its youth, whilst having the concentration and depth the McRae Wood is famous for. Maraschino cherry and blackberry fruit complements the tar and aniseed savouriness. While showing fantastic drive and power, the soft integrated tannins add a lengthy finish.
92 Points - Halliday
It's a flavoursome, fuller-figured red with clove and cinnamon wood a feature over red plum, raspberry coulis and figgy, dried fruit characters. Thick in the palate with ribs of firm, gravelly tannin, the wine finishes with decent length, albeit a bit woody/dusty over finesse and freshness. For those seeking a liberally seasoned, bolder red, this works.
