About the Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Roure 2018
Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Roure 2018 is an exceptional, deeply structured Northern Rhône red wine crafted from 100% Syrah sourced from ancient vines planted in 1945. Grown on the remarkably steep, granite-rich slopes of Gervans just behind the Hermitage hill, this organically and biodynamically farmed cuvée displays a dense ruby-purple color. The highly aromatic nose opens with brooding layers of crushed stone, tapenade, ripe cassis, and fresh blueberries, beautifully intertwined with nuances of espresso, peppery herbs, and light chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, showcasing a powerful yet restrained profile. A succulent core of dark berry fruit is impeccably framed by plentiful, fine-grained granite-driven tannins and a vibrant natural acidity, leading into a dry, cool, and long-lasting finish accented by notes of savory spice and tar.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with classic roasted rack of lamb, fillet of roast beef with parsley, slow-braised venison stew, and a variety of aged hard cheeses.
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Grown on granitic soils near Gervans, the 2018 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Roure boasts aromas of crushed stone and tapenade, laced with cassis, blueberries and espresso. Full-bodied but restrained, it shows the structural influence of the granite, with plentiful fine-grained tannins that seem deceptively silky, yet yield a finish that's dry, cool and refreshing.
93 Points - James Suckling
Plenty of cracked-pepper character to the black fruit and light tar. It’s full-bodied with linear, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Surprisingly hard and chewy. Needs some time to soften.
