Producer Description
"Another fantastic example of Port Charlotte from one of those early production vintages where they were essentially cos-distilling Brora. Made all the more exciting in this instace by the fact that it has matured in a refill hogshead, meaning all the more extra juicy, farmy, peaty, distilliatey goodness! This is Islay Sponge Part IV. It’s a 2003, 20 year old Port Charlotte which has matured full term in a trusty refill hogshead which we have bottled at natural cask strength.
Back in 2003 they were essentially distilling a kind of covert Brora at Bruichladdich, thankfully all that farmyard funk and dense Islay goodness has been put front and centre in this lovely cask. As such, we thought it would be a very fitting latest entry in our ongoing effort to bottle an example of each Islay distillery. As you enjoy it, please imagine you are standing on a lighthouse being gently seduced by an appropriately slimy Levithan tentacle."
