About the Imperial Gran Reserva 2019
Imperial Gran Reserva 2019 is an iconic, deeply complex, and classically structured Spanish red wine produced by Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) only in exceptional vintage years. Sourced from 40+ year-old bush vines in the high-altitude vineyards of Rioja Alta, it undergoes two years of aging in French and American oak barrels followed by three years of cellar bottle aging. The wine exhibits a dark garnet hue and opens with intricate aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, cigar ash, and dried herbs, overlaid with subtle accents of truffle, clove, and cocoa. On the palate, it delivers a medium-to-full body with a core of concentrated dark fruit, lively balance, and fine-grained, chalky tannins that flow seamlessly into an exceptionally long, elegant finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs brilliantly with roast suckling pig, rack of lamb, braised venison shanks, wild mushroom stew, or well-aged Manchego cheese.

2019 was a warm and classical year of healthy grapes, and the 2019 Imperial Gran Reserva is a powerful version only produced in exceptional years. Produced with a blend of Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, it fermented in oak vats with their own selected yeasts, and the wine matured for two years in new and used barriques, 80% of them French and the rest American. It has a classical nose, with notes of dry leaves, truffle, cigar ash and dark spices and a touch of iodine and earth. It comes in at 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.63 and 5.67 grams of acidity. It's harmonious and balanced, with elegant, polished and sleek tannins. 56,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2022.

An enticing red, with a lovely nose of mountain herbs, graphite, dried violet and sandalwood, aromas that waft through a dark, concentrated range of black currant, black cherry and plum sauce fruit flavors. This is long and vibrant, with fine-grained tannins firming the finish of ripe fruit, spiced orange peel and leather notes. Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. Drink now through 2039.
