About the Heitz Cellar Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Heitz Cellar Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a spectacular and historic expression of Napa Valley winemaking. Originally conceived by Joe Heitz in 1969 and meticulously recreated decades later, this ultra-premium cuvée is a master blend sourced from the estate's finest single-vineyard parcels across Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, and Howell Mountain. In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby color, introducing an expressive and highly aromatic bouquet of fresh black cherries, boysenberry, and dark plum, beautifully lifted by signature nuances of bold menthol, crushed violets, and roasted savory herbs. On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, medium-to-full-bodied, and robust, delivering complex layers of dark fruit, licorice, and black olive. These flavors are perfectly structured by firm, velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity that drive into a long, distinctive, and earth-tinged finish.
Food Pairing:
Pairs beautifully with dry-aged ribeye steak, rosemary-braised beef short ribs, hearty roasted lamb, and matured cheeses like aged Gruyère.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This robust, well-structured wine hugs tasty black cherries, black olives and charcoal flavors in firm tannins and will certainly improve and expand with time. Meaty, black peppery accents join with the herbs and black fruits for a complex, concentrated expression. best from 2026-2036.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
Expressive, with a bold menthol note followed quickly by boysenberry and blackberry compote flavors wrapped in black licorice. The long finish has a tug of earth amid a generally velvety feel, while the menthol note curls around the fruit. Distinctive. Drink now through 2038.
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
There's a gentle herbaceousness to the cherry fruit in Heitz's 2018 Lot C-91, making it a bit more like redcurrant than true cherry. A blend of fruit from Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Howell Mountain, it's medium-bodied but more expansive and generous than the regular bottling, with a nice touch of velvet layered in on the mid-palate and a long, fruit-driven finish.
