About the Hartfield & Co. Wheated Bourbon
A stunningly unique, extremely limited craft release from Hartfield & Co., the very first distillery to legally produce bourbon in Bourbon County, Kentucky since 1919! This fascinating "Pre-Prohibition Style" expression completely swaps out the traditional malted barley for 20% malted wheat (partnered with 80% corn). Utilizing historic, labor-intensive methods like grain-out fermentation and single-pass distilling, it is aged in small-format barrels and bottled at a robust 100 proof (50% ABV). The result is an incredibly soft, approachable, and dessert-forward flavor profile that beautifully showcases the sweet, earthy character of the wheat.
NOSE
Warm and inviting with distinct aromas of toasted oak, sweet butter, warm caramel, vanilla bean, and a unique hint of dusty wheat.
PALATE
Exceptionally soft and mouth-coating. Lush flavors of sweet caramel, vanilla pastry, and butterscotch are beautifully balanced by a gentle, warming punch of cinnamon and light pepper spice.
FINISH
Medium-long, warm, and highly satisfying with lingering sweet oak, dusty wheat, and a fascinating touch of dark chocolate.
