About the Grof Degenfeld Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 1998
Crafted by the historic Gróf Degenfeld estate in Tarcal, located in Hungary's legendary Tokaj-Hegyalja region, this mature 1998 vintage Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos represents a sublime, fully aged expression of one of the world's greatest dessert wines. Produced primarily from hand-picked Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), the noble "Aszú" berries were steeped in base must and fermented before undergoing years of traditional aging in deep underground Hungarian oak cellars. Decades of patient bottle aging have transformed this 1998 vintage into an extraordinarily complex, velvety elixir.
Food Pairing: Seared foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola Piccante, pecan pie, dried fruit platters, dark chocolate desserts, or enjoyed slowly on its own as a vintage digestif.
