About the Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023
Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023 is a concentrated and deeply structured single-vineyard red sourced from the steep, north-facing slopes of the Warramate Ranges in the Gruyere sub-region. Grown on thin, gravelly loams over rocky clay, this vintage benefited from one of the coolest and latest harvests on record, resulting in intense fruit concentration and vibrant natural acidity. The winemaking involved hand-picking and 21% whole-bunch fermentation, followed by ten months of maturation in French oak barriques (25% new). The wine presents a deep ruby hue with a heady aromatic profile of kirsch, damson plums, and licorice root, accented by subtle notes of blueberry bush, graphite, and wild herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and fleshy, featuring a core of black cherry and pomegranate supported by ripe, persistent tannins and a savory finish of dried thyme and sandalwood.
Complex aromas of blueberry bush, wild blackberries, graphite and pomegranates. The palate is medium-bodied with seamlessly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of Damson plums, dark cherries, coffee beans and wild raspberries. Vibrant and refined, with a firmly integrated structure. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
