About the Gerard Bertrand Plantabelle 2019
Gérard Bertrand Plantabelle 2019 is an exceptional, elegant red wine that stands out as one of the finest gems of the Languedoc-Cabrières appellation. Meticulously crafted from a blend of hand-harvested Grenache Noir and Syrah grown on sun-drenched, schist-based colluvial soils, this vintage showcases an impressive aromatic intensity. In the glass, it reveals a dark, violet-tinged hue that hints at its profound depth. The highly expressive bouquet is dominated by incredibly ripe black fruits, crushed berries, and menthol, seamlessly woven with distinct, savory notes of Mediterranean garrigue. On the palate, the wine perfectly balances robust density and remarkable elegance, framed by incredibly fine, silky tannins. Careful aging for 12 months in French oak barrels imparts a deeply complex, lingering finish accented by sophisticated hints of roasted coffee, sweet spices, and licorice.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with a robust wild boar terrine, slow-roasted lamb, hearty game meats, or a rich, mature truffle Brie.
93 Points - James Suckling
A round and fruity blend of 90% grenache and 10% syrah. Red berries, cassis and spiced herbs on the nose. Medium to full body with fine, firm tannins. Impressive volume and concentration at the center. It’s compact yet very precise. Excellent length in the finish. Drink or hold.
92 Points - Wine Spectator
This sleek, full-throttled red shows good balance. Rich, ripe and fresh, offering a luscious cascade of black raspberry and steeped cherry flecked with notes of herbs and anise. The grilled apple wood influence is well-integrated, with sculpted red tea tannins holding firm and driving the long, generous finish. With mouthwatering acidity and power in reserve, this will go the distance in the cellar. Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault. Drink now through 2030.
