Gérard Bertrand Château l'Hospitalet La Clape Grand Vin Rouge 2022 is an exceptionally elegant, structured, and deeply expressive biodynamic red wine that masterfully captures the unique maritime terroir of the La Clape appellation in Languedoc. Grown on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the vines thrive in a semi-arid climate where limestone cliffs store daytime heat and release it at night, while cooling sea breezes maintain fruit freshness. In the glass, it displays a brilliant, deep ruby hue. The intense, highly complex nose opens with an aromatic array of wild strawberries, muddled black cherries, and cassis, seamlessly layered with fresh sage, wild garrigue herbs, licorice, and sweet hints of barrel-aged vanilla and graphite. On the palate, this full-bodied red is remarkably dense, fleshy, and harmonious. It offers a rich core of dark orchard fruits balanced by fine, silky tannins and an animating, mineral-saline freshness derived from the fossil-rich limestone soils. Aged for 12 to 16 months in traditional French oak barrels, it culminates in a long, focused, and savory finish showing great structural precision.
