About the Gaja Sori San Lorenzo Barberesco 2020/2021
Sweet notes on the nose with a beautiful structure of fruit tannins with a lovely, intense color. It is closed initially but when it opens, it has a striking, multifaceted, dense texture. The cask aging also gives the wine a great edge, a little more verve, and tension with notes of salinity, citrus, cassis, currants, mustard, smokiness, and licorice. A deeply complex wine.
Blend: 100% Nebbiolo

James Suckling
The aromas are like a bouquet of pink roses. So perfumed. Citrus. It also has subtle and pure aromas of strawberries, cherries and stone. Full-bodied but agile and floating on the palate with firm and chewy tannins at the end that remain balanced and fresh.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Gaja 2020 Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo has bright cherry, currant and underbrush. This wine is very pretty in the mouth, especially if you considered the silky nature of the weightless tannins. The San Lorenzo is fueled by a long finish and does not drop off on the mid-palate. It keeps going strong with red fruits, high notes and balanced acidity. The wood tannins are melted into the wine's fine texture.
2021 Vintage Ratings:
99 Points - James Suckling
A rather exotic and wild Sori San Lorenzo. Even flamboyant. Dried flowers and spices with bark, mushroom and dried dark cherry. Perfumed and primary with earth. Full-bodied and juicy with such fine velvety tannins that are layered and superb. So classic and soft on the palate with great length. Give this four to five years, but a classic in the making.
98 Points - Wine Enthusiast
An enchanting blend of tea and herbs tangos with grilled cherries and reconstituted currants creates an aromatic profile that's sure to turn heads. The palate is a sublime combination of fresh and preserved red berries, wild herbs, leaves, tar, and crushed stone that all work in unison, ever-evolving with each glance of the glass. Well-structured and firm, a wine of remarkable elegance.
