The earthiest of Pedro’s single vineyards, Meixeman is freshened and lifted by a steely slate rim. The nose is wild with earth, tobacco, forest floor, autumnal undergrowth. Heather, leather, a mineral pulse. Tastes of wild red and black berries, smoked boughs, balsam, and mountain herb, with a typical Guímaro agridulce (sweet-and-sour) touch. Built on solid, leathery tannins, this sits deeper than its sisters, with lively spice freshness at the rim and darting minerals to finish.
94 Points - Wine Advocate
I tasted the 2019s and 2020s from all the single vineyards, which made for a very interesting comparison. The 2020 Finca Meixeman has the ripest sensation among the 2020 single-vineyard wines, even if they all have similar alcohol levels (around 14% when the 2019s are approximately 13%) but still quite fresh and balanced. There are notes of soy sauce, decayed flowers, dry herbs (esparto grass) and a faint lactic touch. It has abundant fine-grained tannins and is a little more Mediterranean. It matured in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels. 6,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022.
95 Points - Falstaff
Deep ruby in colour with purple reflections and subtle brightening on the ochre rim. On the nose, aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, vanilla, tobacco nuances and orange zest, underlaid with delicate herbal spice. The palate has medium complexity, with fine, structured acidity, ripe tannins, dark wild berry fruit with hints of citrus, dried fruit and red berries on the saline-mineral finish. Quite Burgundian in style.
