About the Favia Cerro Sur Red 2019
Favia Cerro Sur 2019 is a powerful, site-driven Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville, Napa Valley. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, graphite, violets, cedar, and dark chocolate unfold into a full-bodied palate with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, remarkable concentration, and an exceptionally long, age-worthy finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with grilled ribeye, dry-aged beef, roast lamb, venison, braised short ribs, or aged Cheddar for an exceptional Napa Valley pairing.
100 Points - Decanter
A new addition to the Place de Bordeaux, this is the eponymous project of husband-and-wife team, viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson. Beautifully perfumed, the nose bursts with rose and violet aromas, while the Cabernet Franc expresses fresh mint, herbs and perfectly ripened fruit. Smooth yet energetic on the palate, it delivers crunchy red berries, black currants and subtle raisin notes, all beautifully integrated. Rather than feeling heavily polished, it emphasizes crystalline iron-like minerality, vibrant acidity and expressive aromatics that showcase both the terroir and a minimal-intervention winemaking philosophy. Hints of smoke, blue fruits and Asian spices add further complexity, while slightly angular tannins are balanced by ripe fruit and refreshing acidity. A stunning wine and a superb addition to the Place de Bordeaux. Aged in French oak barrels, 50% of them new.
97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Sourced from a high-elevation vineyard in Coombsville and composed primarily of Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Cerro Sur reveals a complex and captivating bouquet of pure cassis, currant buds, flowers and chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, this red, blue and black-fruited wine is impeccably balanced, with silky tannins and flawless precision. Aged in 50% new French oak, it is an exceptional 2019 that will continue to evolve gracefully for more than two decades.
97 Points - James Suckling
Predominantly Cabernet Franc, this wine displays compelling aromas of tar, graphite, ink and blackberries. Medium- to full-bodied, it offers layered, slightly dusty tannins and a succulent, persistent finish. Delicious today, yet certain to improve with additional bottle age.
95 Points - Wine Spectator
Super juicy and vibrant, with expressive notes of violet, cassis and plum pâte de fruit leading the way, supported by layers of licorice and sweet spice. The finish carries a touch of toast, though the fruit remains dominant, while a hint of sweet bay leaf adds complexity and lift. A blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2036. 250 cases made.
