To close out our 2022 series of Equinox & Solstice we've selected this gorgeous, velvety and rich 10 year old Mortlach. It was distilled in 2012, matured initially in refill hogsheads and then double matured in a 1st fill sherry butt for over two years. As always with this series, we've bottled it at our favourite dramming strength of 48.5%.
For most of us, when we think of whisky and winter, our minds go to dark and delectably sherried whiskies. That's exactly what we've tried to deliver with this year's Equinox & Solstice winter edition. It's a beautifully deep, rich, silky and satisfyingly thick sherry bomb. Full of that typical Mortlach meat and sinew, but capped with some wonderful and classic sherry flavours of walnut oil, dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee and fruit scented pipe tobaccos.
A modern sherry profile that is robust, clean, rich and hugely satisfying for sipping by the fire with words, music, company - or all three.
