Elio Altare Barolo is a modern, elegant red wine that serves as a balanced introduction to the estate's style, blending fruit from multiple prestigious communes within the appellation. The 2021 vintage is noted for its freshness and precision, featuring a vibrant ruby red colour with garnet reflections and expressive aromas of raspberry, wild rose, and redcurrant that evolve into notes of licorice and spice. Unlike the producer's single-vineyard crus, this "classico" bottling is aged for 24 months entirely in used French barriques to preserve fruit purity and present a softer, more approachable tannin profile. On the palate, it is warm and persistent, delivering a long finish with refined, fine-grained tannins that make it enjoyable early while still offering a cellaring potential of 15 to 20 years.
