Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch A124 is the first release of 2024 in this iconic series, continuing the tradition of offering bourbon in its purest, uncut form. It presents a bright amber to deep copper colour and opens with an inviting nose of "stereotypical bourbon" notes: rich caramel, toasted oak, and vanilla, accented by lively scents of dark cherry and orange zest. On the palate, this batch is exceptionally viscous and "chewy," showcasing deep flavours of butterscotch, dark chocolate, and maple syrup, balanced by a significant wave of peppery rye and baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Despite having a slightly lower proof than many of its predecessors, it delivers a firm "Kentucky hug" on the long, persistent finish, which lingers with lingering notes of tobacco, charred oak, and spicy mint.
