Domaine Lafage Nicolas 2021

Domaine Lafage Cuvée Nicolas 2021 is a rich, full-bodied, and generously expressive French red wine crafted by winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage from 100% old-vine Grenache Noir (averaging 65 years of age) grown on south-facing schist slopes in the Roussillon region. Visually displaying a deep ruby-purple core, it reveals a perfumed and enticing nose filled with aromas of ripe black cherries, dark plums, and crushed raspberries, seamlessly layered over subtle hints of garrigue herbs, licorice, and mineral-driven crushed stone. On the palate, it exhibits a opulent, mouth-filling texture supported by fine, silky tannins and well-integrated acidity, delivering layered flavors of dark fruit, cocoa, and Mediterranean spices that flow into a long, warming, and harmonious finish.

Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye steak, braised beef short ribs, pork tenderloin, wild boar ragù, and aged hard cheeses.

A 100% Grenache from vines averaging 65 years of age, the 2021 IGP Côtes Catalanes Nicolas (it does include 15% of the previous vintage) spent just eight months in demi-muids prior to bottling. A terrific effort for near-term consumption, it delivers subtle hints of garrigue, crushed stone and licorice, all on a bed of ripe black cherries. Full-bodied, round and expansive, framed gently by silky tannins, it finishes long and harmonious.
