About the Devona Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir
Crafted in the acclaimed Willamette Valley of Oregon, DEVONA Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is an exquisite, highly sought-after single-vineyard red wine produced by veteran winemaker John Abbott and his wife Molly. After decades of acclaim at Ken Wright Cellars, Canooe Ridge, and Abeja, John Abbott established DEVONA to focus on small-lot, minimalist expressions of legendary Pacific Northwest sites. Freedom Hill Vineyard—located in the Mount Pisgah, Polk County AVA near the Van Duzer Corridor—is one of Oregon’s most iconic sites, renowned for its ancient Bellpine sedimentary clay soils and cool, afternoon oceanic winds. Hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, the Pinot Noir grapes undergo gentle small-lot fermentation using gravity-flow winemaking techniques. The wine matures for 14 to 18 months in fine French oak barrels (approximately 25% to 30% new) before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The resulting Pinot Noir balances Oregon’s signature plush red-and-black fruit purity with fine structural depth, forest floor complexity, and a long, elegant finish.
Food Pairing: Duck breast with cherry reduction, roasted rack of lamb, wild mushroom risotto, pan-seared salmon, grilled pork loin with herbs, coq au vin, and artisanal soft cheeses like Gruyère or Brie.
