The 2018 Decero Mini Ediciones Cabernet Franc is one of their ‘rare varieties & limited edition’ wines. Of this vintage, only 7,192 bottles were made. The wine shows nuances of pepper, graphite and plum notes with fresh aromatics and taut acidity resulting in a well-structured, elegant Cabernet Franc with great potential for ageing.

Now made with three different clones (312, 327 and R9), this Cabernet Franc was always good but has ramped up a gear in terms of perfume and complexity in 2018. Deeply coloured, leafy and refined, this has filigree tannins, layers of black cherry and red berry fruit, a twist of tangerine and nuanced oak. Outstanding.

Decero didn't have any cabernet franc in its 165-hectare vineyard until they grafted some onto syrah in 2014. The first production was in 2016, and the expression of the variety is very clear in this new vintage, especially in terms of its herbal aromas, which are deliciously mixed with the aromas and flavors of red fruits. The palate is more fibrous and perhaps thinner than the house's other reds, but it's also fresher and juicier.
