About the d'Arenberg Twenty eight Road Mourvedre
Crafted in the premier McLaren Vale region of South Australia, d'Arenberg 'The Twenty Eight Road' Mourvèdre is a bold, highly characterful single-varietal red wine produced by chief winemaker Chester Osborn. The wine takes its name from the boundary road running adjacent to the block of Mourvèdre (Mataro) planted on the d'Arenberg estate. Sourced from old, low-yielding bush vines rooted in ancient, mineral-rich soils, the vineyard benefits from warm days and cooling maritime breezes off the nearby Gulf St Vincent. Cultivated using certified organic and biodynamic practices, the grapes are harvested at peak ripeness to ensure optimal structural depth. In traditional d'Arenberg fashion, small batches of fruit are gently crushed in basket presses and open-fermented using foot-treading methods. The wine undergoes maturation in a selection of older French and American oak barriques, allowing the rustic, savory, and spicy identity of Mourvèdre to shine without being overwhelmed by heavy oak flavor.
Food Pairing: Slow-roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic, braised beef short ribs, venison stew, wild boar ragù, grilled ribeye steak, and aged hard cheeses like Manchego, Pecorino, or sharp Cheddar.
