About the d'Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz 1.5L Magnum
Crafted in the world-renowned McLaren Vale region of South Australia, d'Arenberg 'The Footbolt' Shiraz is an iconic, deeply expressive Australian red wine produced by chief winemaker Chester Osborn. The wine pays homage to Joseph Osborn's prize racehorse, "The Footbolt," whose sale in 1912 funded the purchase of the d'Arenberg family’s original estate vineyards. Sourced from old, low-yielding Shiraz vines grown on ancient, ironstone-rich soils cooled by maritime breezes off the Gulf St Vincent, the grapes are cultivated using certified organic and biodynamic practices. In true d'Arenberg fashion, the fruit is gently crushed in basket presses and open-fermented using traditional foot-treading methods. The wine matures in a combination of old French and American oak barriques for 12 to 18 months, ensuring the rich, unadulterated varietal fruit takes center stage. Bottled in an impressive 1.5L Magnum format—the equivalent of two standard bottles—this large-format bottling slow-ages gracefully, making it a standout centerpiece for dinner parties, cellaring, and major celebrations.
Food Pairing: Slow-braised beef short ribs, grilled ribeye steak, roasted leg of lamb with rosemary, BBQ bacon burgers, venison stew, and aged sharp Cheddar or Gouda
