Crafted in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru 'Champans' 2020 is a quintessential masterpiece of red Burgundy from one of the most legendary estates in all of France. Led by Guillaume d'Angerville, the domain is world-famous for pioneered estate bottling in Burgundy and maintains strict biodynamic farming practices across its prime vineyard holdings. The Premier Cru Champans is considered by many to be the benchmark terroir of Volnay, featuring a steep, east-facing slope composed of red, iron-rich clay topsoil over hard Jurassic limestone. Sourced from old-vine Pinot Noir, the grapes were hand-harvested and sorted with extreme care during the solar 2020 vintage. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts in oak vats, followed by 15 to 18 months of maturation in fine French oak barriques (with a restrained 20% new oak to preserve delicate soil character).
