About the Susana Balbo Crios Malbec 9L Salmanazar
Crafted in the high-altitude foothills of the Andes Mountains in Mendoza, Argentina, Crios Malbec by Susana Balbo is a vibrant, fruit-forward red wine created by Argentina’s legendary first female enologist. The name Crios—meaning "offspring"—was inspired by Susana Balbo's children, Ana and José, who now work alongside her at the family estate. Sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards located at 3,000 to 3,700 feet above sea level in the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, the vines thrive in rocky alluvial soils and enjoy intense high-altitude sunlight paired with cool mountain nights. Hand-harvested and gently fermented in stainless steel tanks, approximately 40% to 50% of the blend is aged in French oak barrels for 8 to 9 months to impart structure and subtle spice while retaining pure fruit purity. Bottled in a rare, monumental 9L Salmanazar format—equivalent to 12 standard 750ml bottles—this colossal display bottle serves as a breathtaking centerpiece for major celebrations, events, and collector showpieces.
Food Pairing: Classic Argentine asado (grilled flank or ribeye steak), BBQ pork ribs, roasted lamb chops, empanadas, burgers, hearty pasta with meat ragù, and semi-hard cheeses like Gouda or Provolone.
