About the Craggy Range Syrah Le Sol
Crafted in the famed Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, Craggy Range 'Le Sol' Syrah is one of Australasia's most revered benchmark Syrahs. Sourced exclusively from tiny, high-density vineyard blocks planted on 10,000-year-old gravelly riverbed soils (le sol translates to "the soil"), the vines benefit from heat-retaining stones that drive optimal phenolic ripeness. Hand-harvested with meticulous berry selection, the grapes undergo open-top fermentation using native yeasts, followed by gentle basket pressing. The wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barriques (approximately 30-40% new) before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. 'Le Sol' combines Old World Northern Rhône elegance and violet perfumed aromatics with New World purity, balance, and incredible aging capacity.
Food Pairing: Herb-crusted rack of lamb, pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction, prime grilled ribeye steak, braised venison shank, wild mushroom tart, and aged sharp cheeses like Gouda or Comté.
