Pomerol is the smallest of Bordeaux's major appellations.

Pomerol is the only major Bordeaux appellation that has not been classified.

Cabernet Franc was the dominant grape of Pomerol until phylloxera hit, at which point it became out-planted by Merlot, the grape that now dominates the region.

The region of Pomerol claims the three most expensive wines produced in Bordeaux: Château Pétrus, Château Le Pin and Château Lafleur.

The wines of Château Pétrus are planted on unique blue clay soils, which are thought to be approximately 40 million years old and the best terroir in Pomerol.
