About the Col D'orcia Brunello Di Montalcino 1981
This remarkable, library-release historic Brunello di Montalcino from the 1981 vintage presents an elegant garnet red color with deep brick and amber highlights along the rim. The bouquet is highly evolved, sophisticated, and deeply aristocratic, slowly revealing complex aromas of dried sour cherries, dried figs, and orange peel, seamlessly layered with mature tertiary notes of old leather, cigar box, iron, forest floor, and a touch of balsamic reduction. On the palate, it exhibits a medium-bodied structure of exceptional refinement and poise; its persistent, structural acidity beautifully carries the faded dark fruit core, supported by completely resolved, silky, and velvety tannins. The finish is remarkably long, savory, and clean, echoing with traditional nuances of dried herbs and fine spice.
Food Pairing: A meditative wine best enjoyed on its own after careful decanting, or paired with slow-roasted wild game, classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or highly matured regional pecorino cheeses.
