About the Malternative Cognac Voyer Lot 19.14 #44 'La Gardienne'
Cognac Lot 19.14 represents an extraordinary piece of liquid history. While a few ultra-rare expressions bear this lot number, one of the most prominent in the Canadian market is the highly coveted independent bottling by Malternative Belgium (specifically the François Voyer Grande Champagne "La Gardienne" release).
Distilled in 1914—coinciding with the outbreak of World War I—this remarkable eau-de-vie spent several decades maturing in French oak before being carefully transferred to glass dame-jeannes (demijohns) to halt the aging process and preserve its peak characteristics. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 44.9% ABV with a minuscule outturn (often fewer than 50 bottles globally), it is celebrated for its stunning vitality. Despite its extreme age, it offers a remarkably fresh profile loaded with juicy apricots, stewed plums, old rancio, and honeysuckle, backed by an elegant, mildly tannic oak structure
