About the Chateau Clos Fourtet Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe
Crafted on the famed limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, France, Clos Fourtet Premier Grand Cru Classé is a legendary, iconic estate owned and passionately managed by the Cuvelier family (Matthieu Cuvelier and Poujeaux pedigree). Situated right at the gates of the historic medieval village of Saint-Émilion, the 20-hectare walled vineyard (clos) sits on a prime, elevated asteria limestone bench. Dominated by old-vine Merlot complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the vines benefit from ideal natural drainage and thermal regulation. Managed with biodynamic and organic principles, the fruit undergoes gentle plot-by-plot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before maturing in fine French oak barrels (60–80% new) in the estate’s historic underground limestone caverns. Clos Fourtet delivers an aristocratic, opulent, and mineral-driven Right Bank expression renowned for its seamless silkiness, pure dark fruit, and long aging capacity.
Food Pairing: Prime dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted rack of lamb, braised beef short ribs, venison tenderloin, roasted duck breast, truffled wild mushroom risotto, and fine aged French cheeses like Comté or Époisses.
