About the Clos Fourtet 2021
A Premier Grand Cru Classé B from Saint-Émilion, Clos Fourtet is renowned for its limestone plateau terroir and remarkable elegance. It reveals aromas of black cherry, blackberry, cassis, violet, graphite, cedar, dark chocolate, and subtle baking spice. Richly concentrated yet impeccably refined, it delivers velvety tannins, vibrant freshness, exceptional precision, and a remarkably long finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom risotto, black truffle dishes, aged Comté, or braised short ribs.
95 Points - James Suckling
The 2021 Château Clos Fourtet opens with vibrant aromas of blueberries, black cherries and violets, complemented by notes of eucalyptus, vanilla, black ink and stony minerality. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins and gentle acidity, it displays excellent structure, depth and sophistication. A refined Saint-Émilion that will reward patience. Best enjoyed after 2026.
93 Points - Decanter
Initially reserved, the 2021 Clos Fourtet reveals bright red berry fruit, lively acidity and refined tannins. Strawberry, red cherry, licorice and crushed stone highlight its limestone terroir, while the palate emphasizes elegance over power. Delicate and understated today, its poise and precision suggest it will become more expressive with additional bottle age.
93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A wine that benefits from aeration, the 2021 Château Clos Fourtet is a Merlot-dominated blend with 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged for 14–18 months in 50% new French oak. Aromas of ripe black cherries, smoked earth, graphite and chalky minerality lead into a medium-bodied palate with fine concentration, firm tannins and a focused, linear structure characteristic of the finest wines of the vintage.
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Château Clos Fourtet opens with aromas of dark berries, plums, spice, smoked meat and subtle toasty oak. Medium-bodied with a fleshy core of fruit, it is framed by powdery tannins that carry through a gently structured finish. A refined and well-crafted wine that reflects the estate's limestone terroir.
92 Points - Wine Spectator
Sleek and refined, this wine delivers elegant black cherry and cassis flavors woven together with fine chalky minerality and subtle black tea nuances. Crafted from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it offers balance, precision and a graceful finish. Drink now through 2036.
