About the Chateau Coutet Barsac Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe 375ml
Crafted in the famed Barsac appellation within the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, France, Château Coutet Premier Grand Cru Classé is one of the oldest and most celebrated sweet winemaking estates in Bordeaux. Derived from the Gascon word for "knife" (coutet), the estate’s name reflects the striking, razor-sharp acidity and nervous energy that define its benchmark dessert wines. Situated on deep clay-limestone soils overlying a solid limestone bed near the Ciron River, the microclimate fosters morning mists and warm afternoon sun, creating ideal conditions for Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Dominated by Sémillon supported by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, the grapes are meticulously hand-harvested in multiple selective passes (tries). Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new), Château Coutet delivers an exquisite balance of rich honeyed complexity, vibrant citrus vitality, and endless cellaring potential.
Food Pairing: Classic foie gras terrine, Roquefort or Stilton blue cheeses, fruit tarts, lemon meringue pie, creme brûlée, savory roasted duck with orange glaze, and spicy Asian cuisine.
