About the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020
A Grand Cru Classé de Graves and one of Bordeaux's finest estates, Château Smith Haut Lafitte reveals captivating aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, violet, and subtle baking spice. Richly concentrated yet impeccably refined, it delivers velvety tannins, vibrant freshness, exceptional precision, and an extraordinarily long, elegant finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, grilled ribeye, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom risotto, aged Comté, braised short ribs, or roasted root vegetables.
99 Points - James Suckling
The 2020 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is remarkably fresh and deeply expressive, revealing aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, crushed stone, fresh tobacco leaf and ink. Full-bodied with a dense, concentrated core, it is framed by exceptionally fine yet steely tannins. As it unfolds, layers of berries, citrus and lavender emerge, finishing with striking salinity, flinty minerality and outstanding precision. Produced from organically grown grapes, the blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Allow 4–5 years of bottle age for optimal enjoyment.
95+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is more structured and reserved than the 2019, gradually revealing aromas of cassis, ripe plums, pencil shavings, violets and mint-infused oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it opens with a velvety attack before unfolding into a multidimensional core of fruit framed by rich, generously extracted tannins. The long, youthful finish is firm and powerful, reflecting the estate's signature style. A superb wine that will reward patience and develop beautifully with extended cellaring.
95 Points - Wine Spectator
The 2020 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is exotic and richly textured, offering layers of steeped plum, boysenberry and blackberry flavors accented by espresso crema, dark tobacco and black licorice. Luxuriously polished yet beautifully balanced, it finishes with subtle savory notes and a gentle earthy nuance that adds depth and complexity. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is best enjoyed from 2026 through 2037.
