About the Chateau Potensac 2018/2019
Château Potensac is often cited as the quintessential expression of the "pure Médoc style," known for its exceptional aging potential and structured elegance. The wine displays a deep ruby-garnet colour and an aromatic profile of ripe blackcurrants, cherries, and plums, layered with classic notes of tobacco, cedar, and savory herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, featuring a tight, dense texture and firm, spicy tannins balanced by a vibrant mineral freshness. Often compared to its prestigious sibling, Château Léoville-Las Cases, it offers a formal and refined character with a long, energetic finish marked by dark fruit and forest floor. Food Pairing: Perfectly complements classic meat dishes like roast beef, herb-crusted lamb rack, or pork tenderloin, as well as hearty mushroom risotto, lasagna, and aged cheeses such as Comté or sharp Cheddar.

Barrel Sample: 89-92
The 2018 Potensac is composed of 45% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine has 14.42% alcohol and was aged in 35% new barriques. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it rolls out of the glass with open-knit scents of ripe, juicy black plums, boysenberries, redcurrant jelly and cassis, plus hints of dried Provence herbs, cinnamon stick and dusty soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of lively black and red berry layers, supported by soft tannins and a racy line, finishing with a lively skip in its step.
2019 Vintage Ratings:
James Suckling
Bright, with crushed-stone and floral character on the nose. Medium body with a firm core, expanding through the palate. Vivid and bright. Lots of good energy. Crushed-stone and lightly chalky character at the end. Needs two or three years to come around.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Always a dependable bottling, the 2019 Potensac opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely concentrated, with lively acids and powdery tannins, the vintage has made for an unusually polished Potensac that will offer a broad drinking window.
