98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2018 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a monumental wine with an almost Château Latour-like stature. Deep aromas of black currants, crushed stone, scorched earth, lead pencil and tobacco introduce a full-bodied, intensely concentrated palate. Massive yet refined tannins surround impressive mid-palate depth before carrying into a powerful, persistent finish. A blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, this regal and structured Pichon Lalande will reward significant cellaring and evolve for more than four decades.
98 Points - Decanter
Grilled notes and graphite immediately establish a muscular, unmistakably Pauillac character. Raspberry purée, cassis, fig and blackberry are layered against charcoal and increasingly structured fine tannins. Despite its considerable power, the wine retains impressive grace and balance, with a structure that promises excellent longevity. Best from 2026 through 2038.
98 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A powerful expression from this celebrated Pauillac estate, packed with concentrated blackberry fruit lifted by vibrant acidity. Firm tannins provide considerable structure, yet the estate's signature elegance remains beautifully preserved underneath the power. Built for a long evolution in bottle, this wine possesses tremendous potential. Best from 2027 onward.
98 Points - Wine Spectator
A deep reservoir of dark currant, blackberry paste and plum preserves lies beneath layers of warm earth, tobacco, singed cedar, sweet bay leaf and savory nuances. A strong graphite backbone reinforces the wine's powerful, structured personality and exceptional aging potential. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2030 through 2050.
97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Composed of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande bursts with baked plum, ripe black currant and wild blueberry aromas, complemented by cedar, pencil lead, herbs, savory notes and lilac. Medium-bodied and beautifully crafted, it combines seamless freshness with firm, grainy tannins surrounding a tightly knit core of black fruit. A lingering fragrant-earth character defines the finish, and the wine should evolve gracefully for at least three decades. Rating: 97+.
97 Points - James Suckling
Aromas of blackberry, dried blueberry, gravel, mocha and cigar box are complemented by a subtle fresh-herb character. Full-bodied with firm, ultra-fine tannins and vibrant acidity, it is focused, mineral-driven and exceptionally persistent. Tight and restrained in its youth, it possesses impressive precision and length. Best from 2026 onward.
