About the Chateau Phelan Segur 2020
Chateau Phelan Segur is a Saint-Estephe red produced from an estate vineyard planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Grand Vin combines structure, freshness, fruit concentration, and refined tannins, expressing the distinctive gravel and clay terroir of Saint-Estephe.
Food Pairing: Pairs best with herb-crusted lamb rack, braised beef cheeks, venison, or aged Comte.
95 Points - James Suckling
Aromas of blackcurrants, plums, graphite, cedar and spices lead to a medium- to full-bodied palate. Fine, polished tannins provide structure, while fresh dark fruit and mineral character carry through the persistent, focused finish.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This wine combines ripe black fruits with firm tannins and freshness. Its structured character is balanced by generous fruit, giving the wine concentration, elegance and considerable potential for further development in bottle.
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Phelan Segur offers aromas of cassis, dark berries, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it has a generous core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acidity, concluding with a persistent finish.
