Despite initially challenging weather, the 2018 Bordeaux vintage was excellent possibly even legendary.

The winter was unusually wet and remained so throughout the spring. These warm, wet conditions did, however, prompt an outbreak of downy mildew which threatened various vineyards. Organic and biodynamic vineyards tended to suffer the most, presumably due to the restriction of sprays and pesticide use, which meant vineyards like Chateau Palmer and Ponet Canet had their yields drastically cut short. However, they were far from alone, around one third of Bordeaux was affected. Hail also struck during this period and a few unfortunate châteaux took significant hits.
