About the Les Chenes de Macquin 2018 750ml
The nose is elegant and offers a beautiful finesse of the grain, a beautiful elegance as well as subtility and a small power. It reveals notes of bright cassis, bright blackberry and small notes of fleshy blueberry associated with fine touches of crushed redcurrant, fresh cornflower, a hint of lilac, black tea, liquorice and very discreet hints of sweet spices. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a beautiful definition, a beautiful freshness, elegance, deepness, precision and finesse of the grain. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy cassis, bright raspberry and juicy/bright violet plum associated with touches of juicy/bright currant on the tong, lilac, cornflower, small bright berries as well as hints of nutmeg, toasted, chocolate and a very discreet hint of mild tobacco (in the background). Good length. Tannins are elegant and offer a very discreet chew. A very discreet saline/sapid hint on the persistence.
97 points - Falstaff
Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, discreet bright rim. Multifaceted bouquet of wild berries and fine oak, ripe cherries, fresh orange zest, a hint of vanilla and nougat. Juicy, highly elegant, finely pronounced fruit texture, silky tannins, fresh structure, mineral and long lasting, fine sweetness on the finish, very harmonious, great future potential.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
94–96. Barrel Sample. The pure black currant fruits of this exemplary wine are matched with bright acidity and ripe, solid tannins. It is impressively rich and will certainly age well. Roger Voss
