About the Chateau Palmer 1983
The 1983 Château Palmer is an outstanding wine from one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux region. Château Palmer is known for its exceptional wines that combine elegance, finesse, and complexity. The 1983 vintage is particularly noteworthy and is considered one of the best vintages of the decade.
The Château Palmer 1983 is a deep ruby red in color with light brick-red reflections, indicating its maturity and aging. A complex and seductive bouquet unfolds on the nose. Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums dominate, accompanied by subtle notes of violets and rose petals. These fruit and floral notes are complemented by nuances of cedarwood, tobacco, and a subtle hint of spice, resulting from the long aging in oak barrels.
On the palate, the Château Palmer 1983 reveals itself as a wine of impressive structure and elegance. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, resulting in a smooth and velvety mouthfeel. The intense fruit flavors continue, complemented by secondary aromas of leather, truffle, and a hint of graphite. This complexity and depth lend the wine remarkable finesse.
98 Points - James Suckling
This is one of the all-time greatest Palmers for its complexity and finesse. Intense aromas of smoked meats and dark fruits plus hints of tobacco meet a silky, almost buttery texture of great yet beautiful concentration that combines in superb balance with a plateful of fruit and still mouthwatering acidity. The tannins are round and fat, and the finish is long and mesmerizing. This is crying out to be drunk now, yet the persistent acidity should provide for at least another 10 years of possible cellaring.
