100 Points - James Suckling
Aromas of graphite, earth and black currants introduce a wine of remarkable elegance, nuance and delicacy. The palate is precise and almost ethereal, with subtle fruit supported by tender tannins that possess exceptional focus and seamless integration. Elegance at its finest. Already approachable, yet it will evolve into an even more refined and beautiful expression with additional time in bottle. Drink or hold. 10 Years On Retrospective.
99 Points - Wine Enthusiast
With a remarkable 94% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, this wine is packed with vibrant black currant fruit, impressive tannins and lively acidity. It takes Château Margaux to another level, driven by a dense, dry core of tannins that will carry it confidently into a very long future. Drink from 2025.
99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Château Margaux is composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. It glides from the glass with glamorous aromas of red currants, candied violets, kirsch and crushed black currants, layered with tilled earth, forest floor, cast iron, cigar box, lavender and delicate hints of oolong tea. Medium-bodied, the palate is laced with striking minerality and possesses an almost weightless elegance despite its remarkable concentration. Layers of red and black fruit are supported by a firm framework of silt-fine tannins, leading to a wonderfully fragrant and exceptionally long finish.
97 Points - Wine Spectator
Beautifully rendered, with a lush and seamless flow of cassis, steeped cherry, warmed raspberry and gently mulled blackberry fruit gliding effortlessly across the palate. Subtle notes of lilac, savory herbs, mesquite and minerality add texture and complexity to the finish. Deep, long and exquisitely defined, with gorgeous purity of fruit. Best from 2024 through 2040. 10,833 cases made.
