About the Chateau Margaux 2015
Chateau Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most legendary First Growth estates, revered for its extraordinary elegance, finesse, and longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, violet, cedar, graphite, and exotic spice unfold into a seamless palate with silky tannins, exceptional purity, remarkable complexity, and an endlessly refined finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
100 Points - Decanter
Château Margaux's Grand Vin accounts for just 35% of production in the 2015 vintage. A standout during en primeur, it has more than fulfilled its early promise. The concentration is extraordinary, with a fruit profile that is darker, tighter and more persistent than Pavillon Rouge. Remarkably fresh despite its richness, it combines opulent fruit with densely silky tannins that expand gracefully across the palate before building toward a powerful finish lifted by refreshing menthol notes. This is quintessential Château Margaux, displaying breathtaking aromatics and tannins so fine they seem seamlessly woven together. Despite its exceptional ripeness, freshness remains the defining characteristic. The 100% new oak is already beautifully integrated. A wine to treasure for decades.
100 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2015 Château Margaux is as great a wine as I have ever tasted. Produced from just over one-third of the estate's harvest and composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, it was aged in 100% new French oak. Its deep ruby-purple color introduces an exhilarating bouquet of crème de cassis, toasted spices, cedarwood and subtle oak. Incredibly elegant and driven by finesse, yet overflowing with fruit, depth, richness and structure, it embodies everything that defines a truly world-class Bordeaux. Although the vintage offers early charm, this masterpiece deserves at least a decade in the cellar and will reward patient collectors for more than 40 years.
100 Points - James Suckling
The greatest Château Margaux ever made. More than perfection. Full-bodied, with firm yet ultra-silky tannins and magnificent black currant, mineral and floral character. It begins quietly before unfolding into an almost endless palate of seamless precision. I want to sing! This is the Château Margaux that the legendary vintages of 1945, 1959 and 1961 never quite achieved. Perhaps it is the modern equivalent of the mythical 1900. Simply breathtaking.
100 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A wonderfully subtle and sophisticated wine that conceals immense power beneath its elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon provides pure black currant character, while firm tannins are wrapped inside a beautifully generous fruit profile. Every element is perfectly balanced, making this an extraordinary expression of Château Margaux. Barrel Sample: 98–100 Points.
99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Château Margaux is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Medium garnet-purple in color, it opens with irresistibly seductive aromas of warm blackberries, cassis and Black Forest cake, complemented by forest floor, sandalwood, anise, cigar box and delicate lavender. Medium- to full-bodied, the palate is taut, muscular and densely packed with black fruits and exotic spices, supported by a powerful framework of grainy tannins and remarkable freshness that carries through to a long, savory finish. Still tightly wound in its youth, it deserves at least 15 years of cellaring before revealing its full magnificence. This vintage is presented in a commemorative bottle honoring longtime winemaker Paul Pontallier, making it both a remarkable wine and a lasting tribute to one of Bordeaux's greatest talents.
99 Points - Wine Spectator
Sublime from start to finish, with captivating aromas of sandalwood, black tea and mesquite woven through layers of gently steeped red and black currants and raspberries. The structure is flawlessly integrated, allowing notes of warm tar, lilac, juniper and iron to emerge gracefully throughout the remarkably long finish. Lingering echoes of fruit and warm earth promise an unforgettable experience when this wine reaches full maturity. Best from 2030 through 2050.
