About the Chateau Margaux 2010
Chateau Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most legendary First Growth estates, revered for its extraordinary elegance, finesse, and longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, violet, cedar, graphite, and exotic spice unfold into a seamless palate with silky tannins, exceptional purity, remarkable complexity, and an endlessly refined finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
100 Points - James Suckling
Phenomenal from barrel and every bit as extraordinary in bottle. The aromas are spellbinding, opening with a bouquet of pink roses before revealing layers of currants, berries and citrus. Full-bodied, with wonderfully refined tannins, it begins discreetly before building in wave after wave of complexity, like a slow but powerful rising tide. The texture is breathtakingly beautiful. Best from 2020 onward.
99 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
An undeniable star of Margaux, from what Philippe Bascaules described as a "dream year," the 2010 Château Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all aged in new French oak. Its deep purple color precedes a sensational bouquet of smoky tobacco, red and black fruits, and graphite. Full-bodied and immensely powerful, it delivers ripe, polished tannins and extraordinary depth. While still approaching its prime drinking window, it possesses everything expected of a truly great Château Margaux and promises an exceptional evolution.
98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Château Margaux reveals aromas of minted black currants, new leather and Black Forest cake, complemented by notes of sautéed herbs, tar, underbrush, wild mushrooms and a hint of cedar. Full-bodied, the palate is built around a rock-solid framework of firm, grainy tannins and vibrant freshness that supports its taut, muscular fruit. The finish is long, earthy and remarkably persistent. Rating: 98+.
98 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A magnificent wine that is only just beginning its journey. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon gives it tremendous structure and classic black currant character. Layers of dark chocolate and oak still dominate, highlighting its youthful nature, while the richness and power of the fruit bring balance and elegance to the dense, firmly structured palate. Cellar Selection.
98 Points - Wine Spectator
Liquid velvet, with stunning length and a wonderfully caressing mouthfeel. Layers of creamed plum, blackberry coulis and steeped black currant glide effortlessly across the palate, seamlessly intertwined with notes of black tea, mulled blood orange, incense and lilac. Subtle hints of mesquite and alder linger in the background, while the massive underlying structure has integrated beautifully.
