About the Chateau Margaux 2003
Chateau Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most legendary First Growth estates, revered for its extraordinary elegance, finesse, and longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, violet, cedar, graphite, and exotic spice unfold into a seamless palate with silky tannins, exceptional purity, remarkable complexity, and an endlessly refined finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Am I being too stingy with the 2003 Château Margaux? A wine of extraordinary complexity and intensity, it displays a deep purple color and a style reminiscent of the 1990 Château Margaux, perhaps with even greater concentration. Velvety in texture, it reveals aromas of spring flowers intertwined with camphor, melted licorice, crème de cassis and toasted bread. While not a blockbuster, it possesses remarkable intensity alongside a surreal sense of delicacy and lightness. Exceptional freshness, despite reaching 13.5% alcohol, combines with alluring sweetness and early accessibility. It will likely tighten with further bottle age, but this is a profound Château Margaux that recalls a hypothetical blend of the legendary 1982 and 1990 vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2035.
98 Points - James Suckling
A wonderful surprise. The nose is captivating, offering dried raspberries, strawberries and floral aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, with beautifully framed fruit and silky tannins, it is deep, elegant and layered with remarkable complexity. Fascinating from start to finish, it drinks like a mature classic today but still benefits from additional bottle age. Wait until at least 2015 to experience its full glory.
95 Points - Wine Spectator
This clearly reflects the warmth of the vintage, showing hints of roasted coffee alongside aromas of tobacco, currants and blackberries, with a lightly singed plum skin character woven through the core of blackberry and black currant fruit. Fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, captivating finish demonstrate how a great terroir can faithfully express the vintage while maintaining exceptional balance and class.
