About the Chateau Latour 2019
Chateau Latour is one of Bordeaux's most legendary First Growth estates, revered for its extraordinary concentration, structure, and unparalleled longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, graphite, cedar, cigar box, violet, and fine spice unfold into a powerful palate with refined tannins, remarkable depth, and an exceptionally persistent finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
100 Points - Decanter
A seductive sweetness to the fruit on the attack, this waits a heartbeat before exploding from the glass, overflowing with raspberry, red currants, black cherries, cassis and iris flowers. A silky, confident and exceptionally well-controlled Latour where you can feel the precision and the gradual progression of each element across the palate. It feels incredibly delicate on one level, yet expansive and concentrated, particularly from the mid-palate onward, where a firm grip of tannins lifts, expands and carries through the finish. The clay-gravel soils have ensured there is not a hint of fig or prune; instead, the wine is rich, fresh and wonderfully juicy. I love how Latour has redefined itself in recent years through biodynamic farming while proving that a truly great estate can evolve without sacrificing its brilliance. Aged in 100% new oak. IPT 78. Only 36% of the total production was selected for the Grand Vin.
100 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Looking at the Grand Vin, the 2019 Château Latour is another perfect wine from the vintage and is as prodigious as they come. Revealing a deep purple hue, it displays a powerful and complex array of pure Pauillac cassis fruit along with lead pencil, graphite, chalky minerality, truffle and espresso, while perfectly expressing the vintage's more elegant style with nothing out of place. Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe, sweet tannins, it still possesses Latour's signature regalness, concentration, structure and class, along with just a hint of its typical youthful austerity. This flawlessly balanced, structured and insanely good Latour will be approachable in 7–8 years but will evolve gracefully for 40–50 years in a cold cellar. Hats off to technical director Hélène Génin and CEO Frédéric Engerer.
99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Château Latour is a profound wine in the making and will surely emerge as one of the longest-lived wines of the vintage, as well as one of its greatest. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of rich cassis, English walnuts, cigar wrapper, black truffle, loamy soil and violets, it is full-bodied, layered and muscular, with tremendous depth at its core, ripe tannins and lively acidity, concluding with a long, seemingly endless finish. At 14.1% alcohol, this monumental Latour will require two decades to reach its full stride, but it will be more than worth the wait.
