About the Chateau Latour 2014
Chateau Latour is one of Bordeaux's most legendary First Growth estates, revered for its extraordinary concentration, structure, and unparalleled longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, graphite, cedar, cigar box, violet, and fine spice unfold into a powerful palate with refined tannins, remarkable depth, and an exceptionally persistent finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
99 Points - James Suckling
So much violet, licorice, pencil lead, flowers and currants define this on the nose before giving way to fresh mushroom aromas. It’s full-bodied yet tightly compacted, with tremendous tension and a compressed core of fruit. Incredible fine-grained tannins and energy carry through to a truly great finish. It should be even more beautiful with time. Give it patience.
97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2014 Château Latour is one of the finest wines of a vintage that particularly favored the northern Médoc. Aromas of wild berries and cassis mingle with cigar wrapper, loamy soil, black truffle and beautifully integrated new oak. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, its broad attack leads into a deep, tightly wound mid-palate framed by powdery, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity, finishing with exceptional length and freshness. This classically balanced, youthfully structured wine is built for extraordinary longevity. It recalls a modern interpretation of a cooler vintage such as 1996, though with greater ripeness and even more rigorous selection.
97 Points - Wine Enthusiast
The tannins in this outstanding vintage of Château Latour remain immense, dominating the black currant fruit. Layers of spice, firm tannins, concentrated fruit and a pure, cool character define this remarkable wine. Released only in the mid-2020s, it is destined to age gracefully for many years. Drink from 2027.
97 Points - Wine Spectator
This shows terrific cut and drive from the outset, with mouthwatering acidity and a chiseled graphite note leading into a core of pure cassis and blackberry preserve. Licorice snap and sweet tobacco details weave through the finish, where the graphite note returns and lingers impressively. Best from 2022 through 2040.
96 Points - Decanter
A reddish-purple rim introduces expressive aromas of cocoa powder, truffle, soft spices, blackcurrant pastilles, black cherries and mint—the hallmark aromas of great Cabernet Sauvignon. Wonderfully poised and elegant, it carries a gentle sweetness of red and black fruits. The tannins fill the palate, yet everything is beautifully controlled. More linear than broad, it combines fragrance, finesse and texture with remarkable precision. There is still so much freshness and juicy vitality, complemented by cooling mint notes. Its vibrant fruit almost suggests early drinkability, but the youthful tannins indicate that further cellaring will be rewarded. The fruit lingers beautifully long after the finish.
96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2014 Château Latour remains youthful, relatively closed and still somewhat backward, offering darker, savory black fruits alongside tobacco, truffle, earth and graphite. It is denser and more structured than expected upon release, delivering full-bodied richness, an outstanding mid-palate, impeccable balance and a substantial tannic backbone. The 2014 vintage was exceptional across the Médoc, particularly in the northern Médoc, and this wine deserves another 7–8 years in bottle before reaching its prime. Expect well over three decades of longevity. The blend is 89.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.2% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, at 12.8% alcohol.
