Chateau Lafon-Rochet 2022

The 2022 vintage marks a new era for this historic Fourth Growth estate under the technical direction of Christophe Congé (formerly of Lafite Rothschild). It is a powerful yet silky and gracious Saint-Estèphe that balances the region’s traditional structure with a new level of mid-palate intensity and aromatic clarity. The wine opens with vibrant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and iris flower, leading to a deep, concentrated palate of blackcurrant, graphite, and cocoa supported by substantial, finely knit tannins.

Deep and ripe but still very demure on the nose, with dark chocolate, cigar box, blackcurrants, white pepper and a touch of graphite. Very juicy and nicely chewy on the palate, with a full body and a tight, lengthy finish. This won’t be approachable until 2029.
