About the Chateau Haut-Batailley 2016
The Château Haut-Batailley 2016 is a landmark "classic" vintage for this 1855 Fifth Growth Pauillac estate. Often cited as one of the finest releases under the previous Borie family ownership (just before the 2017 acquisition by the Cazes family), the 2016 vintage benefited from an exceptional growing season that provided ideal ripening conditions. This wine is celebrated for its remarkable precision, featuring a concentrated profile of crème de cassis, graphite, and violet. It is characterized by high acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins, giving it the structural integrity to evolve beautifully over several decades.
94 Points - James Suckling
The blackcurrants and blueberries with violets on the nose are fascinating. Full-bodied and very tightly wound with gorgeous tannins and a linear and bright finish. Needs two to four years to come together. Try after 2023.
92 Point - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Haut Batailley has a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of baked redcurrants, red plums and cassis with asphalt, fried herbs and earth. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and chewy with an earthy finish.
