About the Chateau Haut-Batailley 2023
The Château Haut-Batailley 2023 is a notable release from the iconic 5th Growth estate in Pauillac, marking a significant step forward under the continued stewardship of the Cazes family. This vintage is described as a "harmonious, elegant wine" that increasingly resembles its stablemate, Château Lynch-Bages, in style. Benefiting from warm and consistent conditions that allowed the Cabernet to reach full potential, the 2023 expression is characterized by a "clear vein of freshness" and a refined tannic structure that shows greater finesse than prior years. It presents a sophisticated profile of dark berries, plums, and cedar, with the signature Pauillac mineral core of pencil shavings and graphite.
94 Points - James Suckling
Attractive aromas of graphite, currants and blackberries. Medium-bodied with plenty of fruit, but then firm and chewy tannins give a nice backbone to this. Savory acidity underneath. Linear at the end. A blend of 71% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 4% petit verdot. Needs three or four years to come together. Try after 2028.
